Diamond Head Crater is, perhaps, the most iconic spot for hiking in Oahu, and this hike is easy enough that the whole family can enjoy this excursion together.

Many people who have never even been to Oahu will recognize photographs of Diamond Head Crater. The crater was formed by a volcanic explosion a few thousand years ago, and this Honolulu Attraction draws about 3,000 visitors every day. Not every visitor chooses to hike to the summit, but those who do are rewarded with amazing views.

Even though this Oahu Activity is not considered a difficult hike, some visitors may find it a bit challenging.  The climb, which begins on a trail, features quite an incline in spots. Making it to the top also requires climbing up 2 sets of steps, the second of which is steep. The climb, which is less than a mile, may be steep, but visitors of all fitness levels still make it to the to, but some have to move a little slower than others. The last climbers are admitted on the trail at 4:30 p.m. each day, but visitors who are unsure about how fast they climb should allow for extra time. The average time to hike Diamond Head Crater is 2 hours.

In addition to the beautiful view, hikers who reach the summit of Diamond Head Crater will also see historic buildings including old military bunkers and a historic lighthouse. The lighthouse, which was built in 1917, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
