Honolulu Attractions | Battleship Missouri
The Battleship Missouri is an important historic Oahu Attraction.
The Battleship Missouri has a rich history, and this magnificent ship is now a popular Honolulu Attraction.
About the Battleship Missouri:
The Battleship Missouri was commissioned in 1944 after it was completed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This ship was the site of one of the most significant Events in world history, and a visit here is a must for any history buff.
The Missouri, known as the Mighty Mo was decommissioned in 1955, and then it was recommissioned in 1986. This was the first ship to fire Tomahawk missiles on Iraqi targets during Operation Desert Storm, but that isn’t the Missouri’s only claim to fame. One of the most important Events occurred in 1945. It was then that representatives of the Japanese emperor boarded the Mighty Mo where they were met by General Douglas MacArthur and signed the instrument of surrender that would finally end World War II.
When you visit this Oahu Attraction, you can walk in the footsteps of those who made history aboard this 887-foot vessel. Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring the ship, seeing the berthing areas, learning about the engineering rooms, the weapons, and much more. A number of different tours are available.
The Mighty Mo Tour lasts just 35 minutes, and it provides a good overview of the ship and its history. Those who want to dig a little deeper can choose the Acoustiguide Tour, which lasts about 120 minutes. Another option is the self-guided tour. This is a great choice for those who may be very interested in some parts of the ship, but not others. When you choose the self-guided Tour, you can explore at your leisure. Some people see all they want to see in 30 minutes while others can easily spend hours exploring every detail of the Mighty Mo.
During your visit, you can stop by Battleshop to pick up a souvenir, the Sliders Grill to grab a bite, or Wai Momi Shaved Ice for a sweet treat. Many visitors pair a visit to the Battleship Missouri with other Attractions at Pearl Harbor, and an All of Pearl Harbor Tour is also available.
