About Honolulu Zoo:
This is one of the Honolulu Attractions that is a hit with visitors of all ages. Great for a family outing, the Honolulu Zoo is both beautiful and educational. With many exhibits featuring mammals, birds, and reptiles, and boasting beautiful gardens throughout, this is one Oahu Attraction that you don’t want to miss.
The Honolulu Zoo has some of the most fascinating and diverse animals such as the Black-handed Spider Monkey, serval, Hawaiian Nene, a Red Holstein Cow, and a Golden Lion Tamarin, a visit here offers a glimpse at wildlife from around the world.
There are over 100 species of birds, some common and some exotic. Check out the Indian Blue Quail, Raggiana Bird of Paradise, and the Kalij Pheasant. The laughing Doves, a host of cranes, and a community of beautiful green peafowl are other stars of the bird exhibits. You will find the birds scattered throughout the zoo, and you’ll hear their cries as you explore the grounds.
The reptiles and the amphibians are quite popular – especially with younger visitors. With a resident Komodo dragon, Mexican Axolotl, and over 20 species of turtles and tortoises, you’ll see creatures you may not have the chance to see anywhere else.
The Honolulu Zoo’s education and conservation programs are integral to the Zoo’s missions. The conservation programs include efforts such as the Turtle Conservancy, and the Madagascar Ploughshare Tortoise Project, which helps protect this most endangered tortoise species. The Zoo also has conservation projects that assist with the preservation of the White Rhino, the Tiger Conservation Campaign, and a project that focuses on the Elephant welfare.
Along with the conservation programs you and your children can attend some of the Honolulu Attraction’s educational offerings. Camp Wildlife Koas allows children ages 9 to 11 to meet some endangered species up close. With these kinds of encounters, the many related crafts, multi-media presentations, and animal-themed games, your child will leave with a real sense of responsibility and a personal connection to these endangered species. There are also comparable programs for every age group.
A visit to the Honolulu Zoo will be a highlight of your visit to Oahu!
